In this uplifting story, the princess is cursed to have no gravity - physical or emotional. Without emotional gravity, she can’t experience any weighty feelings. And without physical gravity, she cannot touch the ground! As the kingdom scrambles to break the curse before her sixteenth birthday, the princess finds a love that helps her celebrate what makes her different.
This bright, hopeful script approaches big ideas with warmth, levity, and joy.

The Light Princess was directed by Kate Drummond in January/February 2019, at the Slate Theatre.
It was the second show in Dacha's third season, and our first musical. The original run of this show reached new heights despite a massive snowstorm in Seattle, and we hope it can bring you that same warmth now! |

D I R E C T O R ' S N O T E : When I first encountered this script, I was charmed by the description of it as “written for children, but safe for adults.” Now, I believe that this show is written for all of us who have ever struggled to embrace where we fit. The Light Princess is a beacon of hope and joy in a time when we all need a guiding light. It is unapologetic in its levity, and trumpets a story that teaches us to celebrate what makes us different, and surround ourselves with people who will lift us to our greatest heights. I hope you open your hearts to this brilliant cast and crew. Tumble, soar, laugh, even cry with us - after all, maybe the secret to learning to fly is learning to fall. |
