A small ensemble of actors will dedicate their minds and bodies to memorizing the entire script of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream. At every show, the audience will roll dice to determine who plays who, and the show will begin. Dice is theater at its boldest — an adrenaline-fueled explosion of craft, rigor, risk, and play. Why bother with Shakespeare in 2024? What does truly brave theater look like? And what fools might these mortals be? Come roll the dice and find out.
No two casts are the same, and no two performances are remotely alike. Don't miss the latest installment in the dice series: Dice: A Midsummer Night's Dream Roles: The Dice ensemble will include 9-12 performers, including swings. We are auditioning for all spots in the ensemble, and anticipating casting 4-6 new-to-Dice performers. All actors will be eligible to play all roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The entire ensemble will be expected to memorize the full script. Timeline: Rehearsals: May 25th–June 30th. All actors will be called to all rehearsals, 5 days a week. (weeknights and weekend) Rehearsal locations will be split between a few rehearsal spaces primarily located in the University District, Ballard, and TPS. Tech: July 1st–17th. (Longer days 7/13-7/14) Shows: Approximately July 18th–August 18th, including a transfer to Port Townsend Location: TBA, outdoors Compensation: There is a modest stipend available for all ensemble members of $300. |
Audition Information:
We will be doing a combined audition/callback process. Please note that due to limited space, auditions are by approval only. Available Slots: Sunday, April 7th: 12:30-3:30pm Monday, April 8th: 6:30-9:30pm If you cannot make these times, please let us know. Auditioners should expect to come for a three hour slot. Dacha's Audition Philosophy:
Dacha auditions usually take the form of an audition workshop, followed by callbacks tailored to the specific show. Our audition workshops are typically group auditions comprised of games, devising prompts, and improvisations.
We want to get to know you as creators and artists first. This is because we believe that who you are is the single most important factor in casting our shows.
Preparation is not required for the majority of our audition workshops, and they are designed to make you feel successful, so that artists of all disciplines, backgrounds, and experiences have access to our shows!

Who Are We Looking For?
For Dice specifically, we are looking for actors with strong craft, rigor, and sense of play. Ideal ensemble members are confident with self-guided Shakespearean text-work, have a solid instinct for composition and staging, and have comfort with movement and/or clowning. Dice thrives on vulnerability, bravery, humility, and determination — and, a real good memory.
We are always looking to cast a diverse ensemble of artists who are eager to create and explore together.
Artists of all gender identities, ethnicities, ages, and abilities strongly encouraged to apply.
